Water is a must have in the desert. Troops know that better than anyone and they are frequent customers. Buying hydration packs. Soft bags in strong nylon pouches worn on the back, or strapped to other packs with a tube running up over the shoulder along the pack strap, then hang in front of you while you wear it giving you in effect a 'straw' that reaches back to your bag of water. As you drink from the bag it collapses and there's no 'empty canteen' effect. No sound of sloshing water, no bulky empty canteen to carry around the rest of the day. These are clever, and Desert Surplus has a few styles in stock. They also have many other water devices from flexible wash basins to typical canteens. http://desertsurplus.net
